Law abiding citizen original ending
There is a problem of where the rooting interest for the audience should lie. Shelton wants to show the justice system as being too lenient and he's willing to kill everybody in the system to prove it. Rice suspects Shelton but he only has circumstantial evidences. The other killer with the deal is also brutally murdered. Years later, the execution is tampered with and goes terribly wrong. When some evidences get thrown out, Rice decides to do a deal with one perpetrator to convict the other. D.A., Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx) is a wheeler dealer who has a 96% success rate. The guys are caught but the case goes south. It's a shame, as the combination of rubbish actor and rubbish ending scupper this movie's best intentions.Ĭlyde Shelton (Gerard Butler) lost his family to two killers.
LAW ABIDING CITIZEN ORIGINAL ENDING MOVIE
He's a vacuum of talent, an empty space in the middle of the movie surrounded by other, better, more seasoned performers. But, as usual, Jamie Foxx is completely out of his depth as the lawyer. Butler is good as the 'bad guy', effectively channelling some of that Leonidas rage. It turns out to be an intriguing oddity, instead. It's just a shame, as with some tighter writing this could have been a truly great movie. It's not on par with, say, EAGLE EYE for suspension of disbelief, but it's getting there. But, along the way, the film's sense of realism diminishes until we end up with a completely ludicrous event at the end which is designed to bring closure. It has plenty of incident to keep it running along, and some great scenes: Butler's manipulation of the prison regulations, for instance, or the way he manages to wage his vendetta from the INTERIOR of his prison cell. The film goes from there, starting off dark and becoming increasingly more bleak as the running time goes on.

Butler then undergoes a startling transformation as he sets up a campaign of revenge against all those who failed to bring the killers to justice. Gerard Butler stars as the ordinary man whose family is killed in a burglary gone wrong. Best of all, it blurs the line between good and evil so that you're never quite sure who you're supposed to root for, which guy's the villain and which guy's the hero. A non-linear plot, plenty to say about the state of the world today, some tough performances and explosive sequences.

And so in the end, all we're left with are ticking time bombs and a chunk of our own time that we'll never get back.LAW ABIDING CITIZEN has all the trademarks of a great film. But he gets off on the carnage too much, and the empty, repetitive conversations he has with Nick do nothing to humanize either man. He's meant to be not just a purveyor of vigilante justice but a crusader. "Law Abiding Citizen" asks us to remain firmly on Clyde's side even as the body count of decent, innocent people piles up, but it's a tough request. If Clyde has been focused on nothing but revenge for the past 10 years, how can he afford all the high-tech explosives and ammunition he's amassed? Having seen human lives taken right before his eyes and knowing their value, does he feel even vaguely remorseful about killing others? And what sort of ice cream might taste good once the movie is over?

The mind wanders distracting questions arise. Gary Gray ("The Italian Job") dully directs Kurt Wimmer's over-the-top script with a misty, bleached-out aesthetic that only makes the movie feel like more of a drag. (Naturally, Davis has great presence in her few scenes, but one woman alone can't save this film.)Ĭlyde's impossible omniscience and his sadistically convoluted game-playing feel like a rip-off of the "Saw" franchise, and the banter he shares with Nick makes "Law Abiding Citizen" seem like a poor man's "Silence of the Lambs." His tactics become so predictable, you know the second you hear a ringing cell phone or see a character climb into a car that something is going to blow up real good, real soon.į. But first he takes out everyone around Nick in ridiculously elaborate fashion, to the growing frustration of the mayor, played by Viola Davis. He gets himself intentionally arrested to go after his ultimate target, Nick Rice (Jamie Foxx, looking bored), the slick prosecutor who cut that deal a decade ago to maintain his high conviction rate.
